DADDY-MAN HEADQUARTERS

I'm Daddy-Man!

I am the alter ego of Ivy Butler a father, whom in a moment of despair of not being able to distract his kids from watching Superman on television, decided to become their superhero.  He created his own "superhero" suit and became me... "Daddy-Man!"  I never would have thought the children would have taken my Daddy-Man status as seriously as they do.  I have been asked to rescue cats from trees eventhough I am afraid of heights, and am always "slaying" creepy spiders...yuck!  But there have also been those "special missions" like the time I saved a children's group home from closure and became a hero to some very special kids who now are lifelong friends.

When Ivy started this thing it was for his children, but when I realized the good that came out of it like helping other fathers find their inner superhero as well as become a positive role model to children I met along the way, I knew I had found my calling in life.  With no "real" superpowers like flying, crawling up buildings or stopping a bullet with my bare hands, I discovered my power lies in honor, something all heroes should strive to have.  I have my weaknesses though, "my kryptonite" and that is when kids are hurt, sick and need me, or when I meet a child that is searching for something to fill the void left by a father's absence.  This sometimes places a child in difficult and sometimes dangerous situations where they need a hero.  I have come to the realization that I can't be every place a child needs or wants me to be, so I call on my team of other Daddy-Men who share my mission and goal.  These Daddy-Men may not have a suit like mine, but they have the same strengths that I do.  Are you a Daddy-Man?  Do you know a Daddy-Man?  If so, then join me in "Creating Heroes 1 Daddy at a Time."  This is my motto, mission and ultimate goal.

THE REAL DADDY-MAN!

I am the real Daddy-Man, and I do wear my suit, not only for my children, but as a symbol for other fathers to recognize how important it is to become the heroes in the lives of their own children.  I also want to encourage children to look to their fathers as their heroes verses some of the "false heroes" they look to today.  I don't have anything against Superman, Spidey or Batman. They are heroes that I grew up with and continue to be entertained by today. I worry about our children looking past their fathers and looking to those with the bling and the million dollar contracts who sometimes have no moral values and will never hold a place in their lives.

What started out as a outlet for me to have more daddy time with my kids has become something that almost 15 years and 8 kids later, has been one of my greatest blessings.  Now I make public appearances at libraries, schools, luncheons and private functions to motivate and inspire men to be heroes in their kid's lives as well as talk with children about the importance of being resistant to wrongdoing, staying in school, and having good character.

Okay, so you are not a father.  That doesn't mean you can't be a Daddy-Man. Any man who has the desire to mentor and be a positive influence to a child can be the hero in their life. I hope to make Daddy-Man just as popular and recognizable as my counterparts whom I've admired. Not for extraordinary "powers" like theirs, but for the power I have discovered in  creating closer bonds between a father and his child, which can last a lifetime.  Heroes that are real and willing to protect our greatest assets...our children.

THE DADDY-MAN CREED

The Daddy-Man Creed is something that I live by.  It was created as a guideline to help me recognize what my children expect of me and what I want to be for them.  It also sounded pretty cool as a theme song.

A DADDY-MAN TIP!

"How well do you know your teen?."

Having as many children as I do, it is sometimes hard to keep track of all the things they do from tee ball practice to ACT tests. Sometimes a Daddy-Man has to take a breather to stay afloat of all that goes on in his children's lives. I find that eventhough I can't be with my children at every moment in their lives, I can show them I am concerned about what is going on in their lives from the high points down to the low points and disappointments they may experience. I conduct "Daddy-Man" interviews once a month.  At that time I meet with each of my children individually, to discuss anything they may want or not want to talk about.  I help them set goals and if possible help them acheive those goals.  It gives me time to laugh, talk and sometimes cry with my children.  I don't always have the answers they want to some of their questions, or quick solutions to some of their problems, but my children know that I will do all that I can to support and uplift them in a way they can always trust and rely upon.
